Igniting Igloos and Rolling in Rainbows: How to Improve your Creativity

Creative copy writing and digital mediaHave you ever heard the term “Exquisite Corpse”? If you have, then you’ve already heard of one of the most inventive ways to enhance creativity. If you think the term sounds morbid, then allow me to explain. Exquisite Corpse is a method started in the early 1900s that allowed groups of people to come together and form new and creative ideas. Creativity is an innate desire of every human being. We all want to have our own unique place in the world. Practicing the Exquisite Corpse method is just one way we’ll mention below in this list of three things you can do to enhance your creativity.

Exquisite Corpse. To go into a bit more detail about this method of unleashing creativity, let’s explain how the Exquisite Corpse works. Similar to a few games you probably played growing up, you start with one person writing one sentence, drawing one part of a picture, or writing a few bars of music. Then the next person continues on. In some cases, they aren’t even allowed to see more than a piece of what previous work has been done. The end result is a piece of art that has combined the perspectives and personalities of a wide group of people. Often this can create ideas and forms that had never even been thought of before. If you have a particularly creative group of friends, you might want to give it a try. Our own minds are limited sometimes as to the level of creativity it can achieve without outside influences to trigger some new thought or idea.

Free write/draw/compose. Possibly you did this at school, but free writing is a great exercise even for adults. Sit down with a piece of paper, and just go for it. Start out with what’s on your mind at the moment, and just let it flow from one thought to the next. Putting into physical form the things you have running through your mind will open up space in your reasoning for more creative ideas to come through.

There are many more ways to enhance your creativity, but hopefully these three ideas get you started. As Albert Einstein jokingly said, “The secret to creativity is knowing how to hide your sources.” We all need a little help to bring out that creative side within us, so don’t be afraid to try something new and crazy! If your creativity is lacking and you need a kick start with your marketing ideas, I Say! Digital are here to help.
